Since the FDA announced in late 2019 that strains of Zantac (ranitidine) have been contaminated by human carcinogens, increasing numbers of Zantac lawsuits have continued to flood into the courts nationwide. On September 13, the FDA first announced that certain lots of Zantac medications were contaminated with known human carcinogen, or cancer-causing chemical, N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). NDMA has been at the heart of several other massive recalls, including specific strains of the blood pressure drug valsartan. The FDA’s announcement not only led to U.S. Zantac companies voluntarily recalling lots from the market, but distributers pulling the drug from their shelves. Notable companies who have discontinued selling Zantac and generic ranitidine include Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens among others.
Because of the cancer-causing impurities in Zantac, users of the popular heartburn drug and its generic counterparts have allegedly developed a number of severe injuries, including several types of high-risk cancers. Individuals filing lawsuits against Zantac and generic ranitidine manufacturers and distributers claim that the companies failed to protect users from dangerous medication and sold, essentially, worthless drugs to the public.
So far, several dozen Zantac lawsuits have been filed in federal district courts across the U.S. However, this number is expected to grow as Zantac lawyers continue to review and file claims on behalf of clients with cancers caused by NDMA in Zantac.

NDMA in Zantac Side Effects and Risks
Zantac lawsuits allege that ranitidine, the active ingredient in Zantac, can break down into NDMA inside the body. According claims frequently brought forth in these lawsuits and research conducted on NDMA, cancers associated with contaminated Zantac can include the following:
- Bladder Cancer
- Stomach or Gastric Cancer
- Small Intestine Cancer
- Colorectal Cancer
- Esophageal Cancer
- Liver Cancer
- Pancreatic Cancer
- Testicular Cancer
- Uterine Cancer
- Kidney Cancer
- Prostate Cancer
- Other Digestive Tract Cancers
If you took Zantac and developed one of the above cancers, it may be in your best interest to seek legal counsel. Because so many lots of Zantac have been recalled, withdrawn, or removed from the market, you may be entitled to compensation to help you recover from your injuries and the money you spent on contaminated medication.
